When Will Pep Guardiola Stop? The Manchester City Manager Once Again Delays His Retirement
Far from considering a break, Pep Guardiola made it clear he has no plans to step away from coaching anytime soon. The Manchester City manager confirmed that his work is “far from finished” and that he won’t even start thinking about retirement until 2035.
Guardiola Has No Plans to Step Down
The perfectionist of modern football, Pep Guardiola, insists that his time on the sidelines is far from over. Ahead of Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League clash with Everton, the Spanish tactician was asked whether he plans to take a break from management soon. His answer was direct: “In 2035, I’ll start thinking about it.”
Since arriving in Manchester in 2016, Guardiola has built a dynasty in English football. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach has collected trophies, broken records, and reshaped the way the game is played. “My work at City isn’t finished. That’s why I’m still here,” he explained. “If I ever felt my time was up, I’d step aside, as I did at Barcelona and Munich. But that’s not the case here.”
The manager also praised the team’s current form: “We’re doing things much better than last season. We’re improving in every match. My players and I still have the energy to make this an even better year than the last one.”
Grealish’s Case Sparks Debate in the Premier League
During the press conference, Guardiola also addressed the situation of Jack Grealish, who is currently on loan at Everton from Manchester City. Under Premier League rules, players on loan cannot face their parent clubs, a policy that the Catalan coach questioned.
“These are the rules,” said Guardiola with a smile. “Maybe when I’m a CEO or president of a big institution in England, I’ll change them. If he could play, it would be fine — but I have no opinion.”
However, he took the opportunity to praise the English midfielder’s progress: “Jack’s impact has been huge from day one. He’s getting the minutes he wanted. He’s a great person and has returned to the real business — playing every match. With us, he didn’t always get that chance for various reasons.”
The Legacy Continues
At 54, Pep Guardiola seems as focused and driven as ever. While many of his contemporaries are beginning to think about life after football, the Manchester City boss remains obsessed with detail and innovation — hallmarks of his coaching philosophy.
