What’s Wrong With Liverpool? The Statistic That Worries All of Anfield
The Premier League champions are in trouble. Liverpool’s numbers this season have raised major concerns across Anfield and put Arne Slot under pressure.
From Champions to Crisis
In just a few weeks, Liverpool have gone from unstoppable to uncertain. After starting the Premier League with five straight wins, Arne Slot’s side has now suffered four consecutive defeats, equaling the total number of losses they had during their title-winning campaign last season.
The latest setback, a 1-0 loss to Brentford, dropped the Reds to seventh place with 15 points, seven behind leaders Arsenal. A year ago, Liverpool had 22 points at this stage and looked dominant. Now, the contrast couldn’t be starker.
A Record No One Wanted
Liverpool have become the first team in Premier League history to win their opening five matches and then lose the next four. It’s their worst streak since February 2021, when they lost to Brighton, Manchester City, Leicester, and Everton.
The concern deepens when you consider the €500 million summer investment. New signings Alexander Isak (€150M), Florian Wirtz (€125M), and Hugo Ekitiké (€95M) were expected to elevate the squad, but the returns have been disappointing. Isak has just one goal, Wirtz waited ten games to produce his first assist, and only Ekitiké has met expectations, with five goals and one assist.
Salah’s Dip and Slot’s Challenge
To make matters worse, Mohamed Salah, who delivered 29 goals and 18 assists last season, has only managed four goals and three assists this term. Defensively, Liverpool remain fragile: 14 goals conceded in nine matches and only two clean sheets.
The reigning champions have joined an unwanted club — they’re the fourth title holders in Premier League history to lose four straight league games. With Arne Slot under growing scrutiny, Liverpool’s next test comes on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup against Crystal Palace. A victory could mark the start of a comeback… or confirm that the champions have truly lost their spark.
