'We play football for moments like this', says Adli after stoppage-time heroics
Amine Adli scored a stoppage-time winner for Bournemouth against Liverpool, lifting Andoni Iraola's team up to 13th in the Premier League.
Amine Adli expressed his joy after scoring a 95th-minute winner for Bournemouth against Liverpool, stating, "We play football for moments like this".
After Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai cancelled out earlier goals from Evanilson and Alex Jimenez, Adli prodded home from close range as Liverpool failed to clear their lines from a long throw.
The Cherries have won two of their last three league games (D1), as many as their previous 16 beforehand (W2 D7 L7), with their other win also coming in the form of a 95th-minute winner from Antoine Semenyo against Tottenham.
Bournemouth have also scored multiple goals in 13 of their Premier League games this season, the joint-most of any side in the competition this term, along with Manchester City.
"We play football for moments like this," Adli told BBC Match of the Day.
"The people are coming for this and to see all the happiness in everybody, the members of staff, all the people who are working for the club and the fans, it's for moments like this we play football.
"It's a crazy moment. Obviously, it's the first time it's happened to me. The emotions are amazing, but overall it shows the character of the team.
"I think we played a very good game against a very tough opponent and this goal is showing all the work rate of the whole team and hopefully I score this one, for sure I'm even happier. I'm just happy for the team."
West Ham managed to beat Sunderland earlier on Saturday, while Leeds United and Nottingham Forest have also picked up points in recent matches.
And Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi placed added value on their victory due to the recent results of the teams below them.
"To be honest, unbelievable. A late winner is perfect for us," Senesi told Sky Sports.
"Unbelievable because we need a win. Everyone below us is getting points, so it is massive for us to win today against a really good side like Liverpool.
"The team is staying together, doing the work even if we have a few injuries and important players [out] for us. Everyone is stepping up and we got an important result."
