Andy Robertson on his way to Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur has secured a significant addition in the market, Andy Robertson, the historic left-back of Liverpool, arrives on a free transfer after ending his contract with the 'Reds'. The Scot, currently the captain of his national team at the World Cup, will join Roberto De Zerbi's squad once the international tournament concludes.

Robertson leaves behind nine years at Anfield, where he won nine titles, including two Premier League championships and the 2018-19 Champions League. His contribution was decisive, playing 378 matches and registering 56 assists in the English league, a figure that places him as the second most productive defender in that regard, only behind Trent Alexander-Arnold.

De Zerbi's interest

The player's departure came after losing his starting position to the young Milos Kerkez, but his arrival in London represents much more than a sports reinforcement. De Zerbi, in his first signing as Spurs manager, highlighted his leadership and winning mentality: "Andy is someone I have admired for years... he will be an important player on and off the court."

Arrives at a complicated Tottenham

Tottenham suffered serious defensive problems last season, conceding 57 goals, only surpassed in fragility by Burnley, Wolves, and West Ham. Robertson's experience and solidity aim to correct that structural weakness. Johan Lange, the club's sporting director, was emphatic: "He is one of the best left-backs of all time in the Premier League."

The signing comes in a delicate context; Spurs avoided relegation on the final day thanks to a last-minute victory against Everton. The management is now looking to consolidate a competitive project and, in parallel, continues negotiating for Jan Paul van Hecke, a Brighton defender valued at 93.6 million dollars, after having received a rejection for their initial offer.
