The Reason Why Bruno Fernandes Didn’t Leave Manchester United
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes had the chance to change course last summer and join the wave of stars moving to Saudi Arabia. However, the Portuguese midfielder turned down a massive offer from Al Hilal, who were ready to pay him a staggering €800,000 per week. His decision, far from being financial, was guided by loyalty, ambition, and the support of his family.
“If I Don’t Try, I Definitely Won’t Make It”
In an interview with The Times, the midfielder explained that his choice to stay at Manchester United was purely emotional. “My wife asked me if I’d already achieved everything I wanted at United. She knows I haven’t. I’m not sure if I’ll ever do it—win the Premier League or the Champions League—but if I don’t try, I definitely won’t,” said Fernandes, who joined the club in 2020 from Sporting Lisbon.
Since his arrival at Old Trafford, Bruno Fernandes has played over 300 matches, establishing himself as the creative heartbeat of the team and one of its main leaders. Despite the club’s struggles in recent seasons and the inconsistent performances under Rúben Amorim, the midfielder chose to keep faith in the Red Devils’ project.

The Portuguese star also acknowledged that his close circle played an important role in his decision. “I followed my instincts, listened to my heart and to my wife. She’s always supported me, and we both feel I still have a lot to accomplish here,” he added.
Loyal to His Dream at Old Trafford
Fernandes reaffirmed his commitment to Manchester United, insisting that he feels like an essential part of the club’s sporting project. “I felt I was still part of the plan, that I could help the club achieve its goals. As I’ve always said, I feel good here. I want to fulfill my dreams,” said the midfielder, who remains determined to fight for major titles in a United shirt.
Although the club is far from its best in the Premier League, the captain’s faith remains unshaken. His decision to reject a golden future in Saudi Arabia shows that he still believes in the team’s rebuild and in bringing Manchester United back to the top of European football.
Time will tell whether his loyalty and perseverance will be rewarded, but one thing is certain: Bruno Fernandes is not willing to abandon his dreams — not even for a fortune.
