The End of an Era at Tottenham: Heung Min Son Announces His Departure… Where Will He Play?
English football says goodbye to one of its most beloved figures: Heung Min Son, captain and icon of Tottenham Hotspur, has officially announced he will leave the club at the end of the preseason. After ten years in north London, the 33-year-old South Korean striker closes an unforgettable chapter in his career.
“I have decided to leave this summer,” Son said visibly emotional during a press conference ahead of the friendly between the Spurs and Newcastle United, held in his hometown of Seoul. “It has been one of the toughest decisions of my life. Being at the same club for ten years fills me with pride. I feel like I gave everything.”
A Farewell with a Trophy in Hand
Last season was particularly significant for the forward. Not only did he contribute 11 goals and 12 assists in 46 games across all competitions, but he was also key in winning the Europa League, where Tottenham defeated Manchester United and ended a 17-year trophy drought. “Winning that trophy was the perfect way to close this chapter,” he explained.
Since arriving from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, Son played a total of 454 matches and scored 173 goals wearing the white shirt, including winning the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season. The team’s coach, Thomas Frank, did not hesitate to pay tribute: “Son is a true legend of the Spurs in every way.”
MLS on the Horizon?
Although the player has not publicly revealed his next destination, several British media outlets and journalist Fabrizio Romano report that Los Angeles FC is very close to signing him. If it happens, Son would follow in the footsteps of other European stars who crossed the Atlantic in the final stages of their careers.

“I am grateful to the club for respecting my decision. They supported me at all times,” Son added, confessing he felt a mix of sadness and gratitude when making this choice.
With his departure, an unforgettable chapter in Tottenham’s recent history closes, but a new page opens for one of Asia’s most influential players in European football. Will the MLS be his next stage to shine? Everything points to yes.
