Silva calls for unity at Fulham after EFL Cup victory at Wycombe
Fulham reached the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup during the week, and Marco Silva wants to build on that win against Wolves on Saturday.
Fulham boss Marco Silva has called for unity and togetherness at the club as they look to build on their EFL Cup win against Wycombe Wanderers.
The Cottagers progressed to the quarter-finals of the competition after defeating the League One side on penalties, ending a four-game losing streak in all competitions.
Fulham are currently 17th in the Premier League but host last-place Wolves on Saturday and look to return to winning ways in the competition.
Silva believes their win against Wycombe is a step in the right direction, but there is still plenty of work to be done.
"The results haven't been good enough for us, even in difficult circumstances and against some difficult opposition as well," said Silva.
"But I think we have been very, very competitive even in difficult moments. I'm sure that when we have the full squad available, we're going to be much stronger.
"Many, many things are coming against us. Our words are not going to be enough. We have to work, keep working to be positive. They have to be positive.
"In this moment, the confidence is not something that you can buy anywhere. We need all of us even more together, and our fans with the team as well."
Wolves failed to reach the last eight of the EFL Cup after an enthralling 4-3 defeat to Chelsea at Molineux.
After being 3-0 down at the break, Wolves showed what they are capable of with a fighting performance in the second half.
David Moller Wolfe, who scored two of Wolves' three goals, is optimistic after their display against the Blues.
"I think we have very good characters in the group," said Wolfe. "At half-time everyone looked at each other. We are completely honest with each other now.
"We can either give up or we give everything to the fans that deserve it, for our families who have been supporting us all since we were born, and also, for ourselves, our pride.
"In the second half, we showed a lot of character, a lot of pride in wearing the shirt. Even though the result isn't what we want, we can be very proud of the second half.
"Chelsea are one of the best teams in the world, they showed it this summer, so I think we can be proud. But we need to be able to do it for 90 minutes.
"It's a bit too often that we start the first half not too good, so that's something we have to do better."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Fulham – Raul Jimenez
Raul Jimenez is looking for his first Premier League goal against Wolves since leaving them for Fulham in 2023 (three appearances).
Indeed, the Mexican never scored in four games against Fulham for Wolves, with his seven matches without scoring in this fixture his joint second most in any fixture, behind eight games against Manchester United during his time at Wolves.
Wolves – Jorgen Strand Larsen
Jorgen Strand Larsen has scored in 13 Premier League matches for Wolves, but he’s ended on the losing side in six of those (46%), including their last game against Burnley.
Among players to score in at least 13 games in Premier League history, only Hal Robson-Kanu (54%, 7/13), Danny Dichio (53%, 9/17) and Heidar Helguson (50%, 13/26) have lost a higher percentage.
MATCH PREDICTION – FULHAM WIN
Fulham won 2-1 at Molineux in their last league meeting with Wolves; only once in their history have they ever won consecutive games against Wolves, doing so in the second tier in October 1908.
However, Fulham have lost each of their last four Premier League matches, with no current side on a longer losing run. The Cottagers haven't had a longer losing streak within the same season since losing nine in a row between February and April in the 2018-19 campaign.
Fulham also have not won any of their last five home Premier League matches against sides starting the day in the relegation zone (D3 L2), with one of those seeing them lose 4-1 to Wolves in November last season.
Wolves are looking to avoid going 14 consecutive league matches without a win for the first time since a run of 15 winless between February and August 2012.
Vitor Pereira's men are also the only side yet to win in the Premier League this season (D2 L7). They have failed to win their opening 10 games last season (D3 L7) and no side in top-flight history have started consecutive campaigns with 10 winless matches.
Nevertheless, Wolves have won eight of their 18 Premier League games against Fulham (D6 L4), only beating Tottenham and Southampton (nine each) more often in the competition.
