Ruben Amorim unclear on availability of Man United’s AFCON trio
With the Africa Cup of Nations approaching, Ruben Amorim does not know if three of his players can play for Manchester United on Monday.
Ruben Amorim revealed that he does not know whether Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui will be available for Manchester United’s fixture against Bournemouth on Monday.
The United trio are set to travel for the Africa Cup of Nations, which starts later this month, leaving Amorim uncertain if they will be able to take part against the Cherries.
United are winless in their last four Premier League games against Bournemouth (D2 L2), more winless games than they had in their first 12 against the Cherries (W9 D1 L2).
Mbeumo is also United’s top scorer in the league this season, finding the back of the net six times while providing one assist.
Amorim said the situation was far from ideal, but believes it could also have some benefits for his side.
“We are still in conversation with the national teams,” said Amorim.
“The game is Monday, they are here and they are training and we are trying to prepare all the different scenarios.
“It is frustrating [not knowing who is available]. But nobody knows who is going to play, so it is a good thing.
“We have players to cope with everything. With a long week, you have time to prepare.”
United have lost just one of their last nine Premier League games (W5 D3), going down 1-0 at home to Everton. They have won more points in these nine games (18) than they had in their previous 17 matches combined (16 – W4 D4 L9).
However, Bournemouth have won their last two Premier League away games against United, beating them 3-0 both times. No side has ever won three in a row away against the Red Devils in the top-flight while scoring three or more goals each time.
