Rúben Amorim Responds to Cristiano Ronaldo’s Criticism of Manchester United
The comments Cristiano Ronaldo made about the current state of Manchester United once again shook the English football landscape. In his interview with Piers Morgan, the Portuguese star expressed sadness over the club’s situation and claimed that the institution “has no structure,” a statement that quickly set off reactions across the Red Devils’ orbit.
Hours later, United manager Rúben Amorim publicly addressed those remarks, calling for calm, perspective, and — above all — a commitment to looking forward, not backward.
Cristiano Ronaldo: “I’m Sad… the Club Has No Structure”
Speaking with total honesty, the Al-Nassr striker — a former United hero and European champion — shared his frustration when reflecting on the team where he lived some of the defining moments of his career.
“I’m sad, because the club is one of the most important in the world and I still carry it in my heart,” Ronaldo said, before pointing directly to what he believes is the root problem:
“They don’t have a structure. To move forward you need intelligent people, prepared people, working to build a solid foundation.”
He didn’t hold back when evaluating United’s sporting form either:
“They’re not on the right path. They need to change — and I’m not talking only about managers or players.”
His words echoed strongly, particularly at a time when United is trying to rebuild after years of inconsistency.
Amorim Responds: “We Know Mistakes Were Made, but We’re Improving”
In his press conference ahead of United’s Premier League match against Tottenham, Rúben Amorim was asked directly about the criticism from his compatriot. His answer was diplomatic, but firm.
“He knows he has enormous impact with everything he says,” Amorim acknowledged.
Still, the manager made it clear he won’t get stuck in the past:
“What we need is to focus on the future. We know as a club that we made a lot of mistakes, but we’re trying to change that.”
Amorim emphasized that United is undergoing an internal reconstruction that extends far beyond the pitch:
“We’re changing many things — the structure, the way we want the players to behave… we’re improving.”
He closed by urging the club to avoid needless debates:
“Let’s not focus on what happened. Let’s focus on what we’re doing now.”

A Response Seeking Stability
Amorim’s stance reflects the fragile moment the club is navigating: urgently in need of results, but also of a long-term project capable of healing years of mismanagement.
Ronaldo’s words once again highlight the structural failures that have marked United’s last decade, while Amorim tries to build a new identity without losing composure under pressure.
United stands at a crossroads. The idol’s criticism and the manager’s response reveal two different perspectives — but both agree on one thing: the club must change.
Where they differ is in how that story should be told.
