Pep Guardiola’s words fuel rumors of Bernardo Silva’s Manchester City farewell
An uncertain contract, exit rumors, and words loaded with meaning. Pep Guardiola spoke about Bernardo Silva… and one line did not go unnoticed.
An uncertain future at Manchester City
The future of Bernardo Silva at Manchester City remains unclear. The Portuguese midfielder is out of contract in June and his name is once again gaining traction in the transfer market, with reported interest from Saudi Arabia and Benfica, the club where he developed before making his leap into elite European football.
At 31, and despite the lack of contractual certainty, Bernardo continues to be a regular in Pep Guardiola’s plans, with his importance within the squad unchanged at a decisive stage of the season.
Guardiola’s joke with a serious undertone
After the 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, Guardiola was asked about the Portuguese midfielder’s situation and responded with a blend of humor and honesty.
“I sleep better when he plays, and I need to take care of my health,” the Catalan coach joked, underlining just how vital Bernardo Silva is to his system.
Beyond the lighthearted tone, the message was clear: the manager fully trusts his captain, even as speculation over his future continues to swirl.

“He has fire in his eyes”
Guardiola went further when describing his player’s competitive nature.
“He’s a competitor, he has fire in his eyes. Hopefully he can spread that fire to the rest of the group,” he said.
Then came the most telling quote. Asked directly about a potential renewal, Pep delivered a reflection that sounded more like a legacy statement:
“I would love for him to stay forever. But we’ve talked a lot, and he has to decide what’s best for him and his family. Whatever happens, in 10 years he will still be remembered as one of the greatest players in this club’s history.”
A legacy beyond debate
The numbers back up the manager’s words. Over nine seasons at Manchester City, Bernardo Silva has made 438 official appearances, scoring 73 goals, providing 77 assists, and lifting 18 trophies.
Among them are a Champions League title and six Premier League crowns, achievements that firmly place him among the most influential figures of the club’s golden era.
The contract is running out, options are on the table, and the message has already been sent. At the Etihad, they know it well: if this is the end of the road, Bernardo Silva will leave as what he already is… a City legend.
