Pep Guardiola Jokes About Man City’s ‘Crisis’: “We Can’t Lose Games, Right?”
Results haven’t gone their way, criticism is growing, and the pressure is rising. Pep Guardiola responded with irony — and a message that didn’t go unnoticed.
A difficult moment for Manchester City
It has not been the best month for Manchester City, that much is clear. The Sky Blues have fallen out of the Premier League title race after going four matches without a win and now sit seven points behind Arsenal, the current leaders.
In the Champions League, City are coming off a damaging 3–1 defeat in Norway against Bodø/Glimt, a result that complicates their chances of finishing in the Top 8 and qualifying directly for the round of 16.
Guardiola answers criticism with irony
The run of poor results set the tone for a tense press conference on Friday, ahead of Saturday’s match against Wolverhampton, bottom of the Premier League. Pep Guardiola made it clear that he does not agree with all the pressure being placed solely on his team.
“We can’t lose games, right? We can’t, huh?” Guardiola said sarcastically.
“Manchester City are so perfect that we can’t lose games, I know. That’s how it is. Yes, you’re right — we have to change the dynamic and start winning games.”

Rodri, patience and Champions League frustration
Guardiola also addressed whether the team’s form depends on Rodri, asking for patience with the midfielder.
“Give him time; he was injured for 11 months, he needs time to recover. I know exactly why we’re going through difficult moments. I know 100% what’s happening with the team,” he explained.
The City manager did not hide his frustration with their European situation:
“I know it’s a disaster to have 13 points in the Champions League, I know. But there are eight teams with 13 points, and one of them is one of the best teams in the world. For them it’s fine — for us, it’s a disaster. The bar is very high, guys.”
Guardiola crowns Arsenal
Finally, Guardiola had nothing but praise for Arsenal, City’s main rivals this season.
“They are the best team in the world right now. Look at the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup — they are the best team at this moment,” he said.
“Hopefully we can get closer, improve step by step, and maybe they’ll give us a chance to catch them.”
