Pep Guardiola Backtracks: First Announced His Retirement, Now Says He Could Stay at Manchester City
He first announced he would retire when his contract with Manchester City ends in 2027, but now Pep Guardiola has surprised everyone with a new statement that changes everything. Is he leaving or staying?
A future full of doubts
Just a few months ago, Pep Guardiola seemed to have his destiny set: saying goodbye to Manchester City in 2027, when his current contract expires. However, the Catalan coach made a surprising turn in an interview with Men In Blazers, where he opened the door to extending his stay in England.
"I still have two years left and maybe then I’ll extend my contract for another two. So the question is whether I’ll stop this year, in two years, or in four," confessed Guardiola, leaving in the air the exact date of a farewell that once seemed certain.
His love for Manchester
The Spanish manager, who has already spent nine years in the city, expressed how comfortable and grateful he feels about his life in England: "I love this city. When you spend ten years in a place, it’s because you’re comfortable." He also highlighted that the team has been giving him great feelings since the Club World Cup in the United States, and celebrated the start of the season with a 0-4 win over Wolverhampton.
