Manchester City are reportedly close to completing one of the major transfers of the closing stages of the summer window. The Premier League side is nearing an agreement with Newcastle United for the transfer of Spanish midfielder Nico González, in a deal that could reach around €55 million including fixed fees and add-ons.

Manchester City are close to completing the transfer of Nico González to Newcastle United for a deal worth around €55 million, while the club also prepares moves for Ayyoub Bouaddi and continues to consider a major deal for Enzo Fernández.
The agreement between the three parties is understood to be virtually complete, with an official announcement potentially arriving in the coming days. Nico González has struggled to establish himself as an important figure during the opening matches of the 2026-27 season.
The midfielder has not received significant playing time in the Community Shield or the opening Premier League fixtures, making a departure increasingly likely.
Competition in midfield has also increased following the arrival of Elliot Anderson, while players such as Marc Guéhi, Mateo Kovacic and Rico Lewis can provide alternatives in different roles.
González's potential departure comes as Manchester City undergoes significant changes in midfield. The club has already seen Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders leave, creating the need for further reinforcements.
One of the players closest to joining is Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille. The young French-Moroccan midfielder could cost around €100 million, with his arrival reportedly approaching completion.
However, Enzo Fernández remains another major target. The Argentine midfielder currently plays for Chelsea, and his potential transfer could cost around €140 million.
