Nico González Cleared up Doubts About His Future and Assured That He Wants to Stay at Manchester City
The Spanish midfielder, despite losing prominence in the last season, reaffirmed his commitment to the club and his dream of winning titles.
The Argentine reaffirms his commitment to the Citizens
Nico González assured that he has no intention of leaving Manchester City this summer, despite speculation about his future. The midfielder arrived in February 2025 from Porto with a four-and-a-half-year contract and has already played 58 matches with the club. "I'm happy here. I don't want to leave, and I think the club also wants me to stay," he declared.
Internal competition and rumors of departures in the midfield
Last season, González played 41 matches, 28 of them as a starter, although he lost prominence in the second half under Pep Guardiola. City is planning a midfield overhaul, with names like Tijjani Reijnders and Mateo Kovacic in the spotlight, while Rodri could move to Barcelona. "I don't think any player has a guaranteed position in every match. We all have to work hard. We are one of the best teams in the world, and obviously there is competition for every position," explained Nico.
An intact dream
The Spaniard accumulated 2,582 minutes in the 2025-26 season, although after January it was Rodri who took over the midfield. González was left out of the FA Cup final, but his performance in the semifinal against Bournemouth stood out, where he scored the decisive goal. "Every time I played, I tried to give my best. I watched the final from the outside, but we won, and it was an incredible day. My dream is to win trophies. If I don't play any matches and next year we lift the Champions League, I will be so happy," he stated.
