New Details Revealed About the Speed Diogo Jota Was Traveling Before His Tragic Crash
Spanish authorities point to excessive speed as a likely cause in the accident that claimed the lives of the Liverpool star and his brother André.
Investigation Continues Into the Zamora Accident
The Guardia Civil has released new findings about the tragic accident that killed Diogo Jota, forward for Liverpool, and his brother André Silva. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, July 3, on the A-52 highway near Cernadilla, in the province of Zamora.
Preliminary findings from the ongoing technical report suggest that the green Lamborghini Huracán the brothers were driving was traveling at excessive speed when it veered off the road and caught fire in the central median. Tire skid marks and the potential blowout of one of the tires are being analyzed to support these findings.
Investigators have confirmed that Diogo Jota, 28, was the one behind the wheel at the time of the crash. His younger brother André Silva, 25, was also killed on impact.
Jota Was Headed to Catch a Ferry to England
Reports indicate that the two brothers were traveling toward Santander, where Jota was scheduled to board a ferry to England. Due to a medical recommendation against flying, the Portugal international had opted for ground travel.
The fatal crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. at kilometer 65 of the A-52. Emergency services arrived at the scene to find the vehicle completely engulfed in flames. Sadly, both passengers were declared dead at the scene.
The final accident report by the Zamora Traffic Division of the Guardia Civil is still pending and will be submitted to the Court of First Instance and Instruction of Puebla de Sanabria, which is handling the case.
Football World Mourns the Loss
The death of Diogo Jota, a standout for both Liverpool and the Portugal national team, has sent shockwaves through the football community. Clubs, teammates, and fans around the globe have expressed their sorrow over the loss of a talented player who was expected to rejoin training in the coming weeks.
Though the investigation is still ongoing, early evidence suggests the tragedy might have been preventable. The football world, along with Jota’s family and supporters, continues to grieve this immense loss.
