Brentford announced the signing of teenage defender Jannik Schuster ahead of their final Premier League home game of the season against Crystal Palace.

The Bees are making early moves in the transfer market, with the 19-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year contract, with the option for a further year after joining from Salzburg.

And it is an exciting time for Brentford, regardless, as they continue their push for a European place in their final two league games of the season – they sit eighth, which could be enough for a Conference League spot if Aston Villa win the Europa League and Chelsea do not win the FA Cup.

Schuster would bring some experience on that front, having made three appearances in the Europa League this season, and Keith Andrews is excited to see what he will bring to the side.

"I'm really delighted that we were able to get Jannik on board," Andrews said of the signing.

"He's already played a lot of games for Salzburg at a high level. He's a player with a lot of potential, and we see that as something we can develop.

"I really like him as a young man; he's determined to maximise his potential. He's going to fit in well with the first-team squad."

Brentford have won just one of their last eight Premier League games (D5 L2), but face a Palace side who are also struggling for form. 

Palace are down in 15th ahead of their final two matches, having failed to win any of their previous five league games (D2 L3), but they have a Conference League final to look forward to after facing Brentford and Arsenal.

The Eagles could still have a huge say in how the top of the table finishes, but Oliver Glasner says that while he is keen to avoid any unnecessary injuries, he has a full squad available to him.

"I don't talk about the amount of games anymore and rotating," he said. "The players are fit, and if somebody doesn't feel ready for a final ten days from now, they should be looking for another job!

"Now it's the most important part of the season, very exciting. Every single game, we never want to risk an injury.

"Now the players are fit. Of course, we want Evann Guessand getting a few minutes to be a good option at Leipzig, but we won't rotate massively."

Igor Thiago has scored at least two goals in six different Premier League games this season, the second-most behind Erling Haaland.

Other than Haaland, the last player to do so in more different games in a campaign was Harry Kane in 2017-18 (nine).

Crystal Palace – Jean-Philippe Mateta

Jean-Philippe Mateta, who is fresh from being announced in France's World Cup squad, has scored 11 goals in Premier League London derbies.

It is the second-most of any Palace player behind Wilfried Zaha (15).

MATCH PREDICTION: BRENTFORD WIN

Brentford are unbeaten in their last six home league games against Palace (W3 D3) since a 3-0 loss in the Third Division South in December 1957.

But, following their 2-0 win in November, Palace are looking to complete the league double over Brentford for the first time since 1957-58.

The Bees have won just five of their last 30 Premier League London derby matches (D9 L16). However, two of those victories have come against Palace (three vs West Ham).

Palace, meanwhile, have won six of their last nine away London derby matches in the league (D2 L1). Following wins at Fulham and Spurs, they are looking to win three in a row on the road in the same top-flight season for the first time.

Brentford have lost their final home league game in each of the last two seasons, last doing so in three successive campaigns between 2010-11 and 2012-13, while Palace have won their final away league match in just one of the last six seasons (D2 L3).
