Neville says Guardiola Man City exit would be 'gamechanging' amid reports
Widespread reports on Monday suggested Pep Guardiola is set to leave Manchester City at the end of this week.
Pep Guardiola leaving Manchester City in the coming days would be a "gamechanger" for the entire Premier League, believes Gary Neville.
Neville was speaking as widespread reports suggested Guardiola had decided to call time on his glittering 10-year stay at the Etihad Stadium on Monday.
The reports emerged midway through Arsenal's nail-biting 1-0 victory over Burnley at the Emirates Stadium, which put the Gunners on the brink of the Premier League title.
City must now beat Bournemouth on Tuesday to take the race to the final matchday, when they are at home to Aston Villa and Arsenal are away at Crystal Palace.
But Arsenal already know a victory at Selhurst Park would hand them the crown, regardless of City's results.
And Neville, speaking in his role as a pundit for Sky Sports, was surprised to see the reports emerge on the eve of a huge game for Guardiola's team.
"I'm surprised that it's broken right now. Not just because it's during this match, but it's the night before a Man City game," Neville said.
"Something like that is gamechanger news.
"I think of being in school and hearing the news of Kenny Dalglish leaving Liverpool, or Alex Ferguson leaving Manchester United and Jurgen Klopp leaving Liverpool recently.
"They're such huge moments in football, and I don't see that it's news Man City would let get out or would want out there.
"If it is true, Man City will be extremely disappointed that it has broken now, and so will Pep Guardiola."
Guardiola has overseen 591 games with City to date, winning 416 of those. He has led City for more matches than he did Barcelona (247) and Bayern Munich (161) combined.
City have won 20 trophies since Guardiola arrived in 2016 – six Premier League titles, three FA Cups, five EFL Cups, one Champions League, three Community Shields, one UEFA Super Cup and one Club World Cup.
He is the only manager to win four English top-flight titles in a row, doing so between 2020-21 and 2023-24, and the only manager to oversee a 100-point Premier League season (2017-18).
Guardiola also has the best points-per-game (2.29) and best win percentage (71.2%) of any manager to take charge of at least five games in Premier League history.
And, regardless of the outcome of the title race, Guardiola could leave City with two domestic cups in his final campaign, after they beat Arsenal in March's EFL Cup final and Chelsea in Saturday's FA Cup showpiece.
City are the second side to win the EFL Cup and FA Cup in the same season more than once (also in 2018-19), after Liverpool (2000-01 and 2021-22), with Guardiola the only manager to achieve that feat more than once.
