Danny Welbeck insists his focus is "always on Brighton", despite his impressive form leading to suggestions of an England recall.

The forward scored his sixth goal in five Premier League appearances on Saturday, as Fabian Hurzeler's side swept Leeds United aside 3-0 at the Amex Stadium.

There have been calls for Welbeck to receive a first international call-up in seven years, having last represented the Three Lions against Switzerland in September 2018.

However, the 34-year-old is not getting carried away by the speculation.

"I just control what I can control," he said. "I am enjoying playing my football here at Brighton, my focus is always on Brighton and doing the best that I can.

"To get the goals is important for me and the team, and to get three points."

Brighton stretched their unbeaten league run on home soil to nine matches, and Hurzeler applauded his players' efforts.

"Overall, it was good performance from the start, especially the first 20 minutes," he added. "We lost a bit of control, but in the second half, we got it back.

"We kept a clean sheet, which was important, scored some good goals and created a lot of chances. I am happy, it's really about getting consistency into our results.

"Winning is always the best feeling, but a clean sheet gives you a high percentage of winning the game. Everyone worked hard and were there for each other. We deserve a clean sheet."

Meanwhile, Leeds have gone eight consecutive away league games without scoring against an opponent for the first time in their history.

And Daniel Farke conceded the visitors were second-best on the South Coast.

"Brighton were the better side and deserved to win today," he said. "You can talk about the 50-50 possession for both teams, and we had more corner kicks.

"But you have to be honest to say that out of their possession, they created more chances and were more clinical, and for that, they deserved to win this game.

"Today, as a team and individually, it was not our best game offensively. We were not able to create more in an away game where we had a lot of possession. We created more corner kicks and wide-area free-kicks, but the quality of the deliveries were not great.

"It sometimes happens that the attack doesn't have the best of days. It's frustrating. It was definitely not our day today, and we have to accept the defeat."
