Everton boss David Moyes is targeting more signings in the coming weeks after the club completed a move for Thierno Barry.

Having scored 11 goals in LaLiga for Villarreal last season, Barry was made a priority signing by the new hierarchy at Everton.

The Toffees confirmed a deal for the 22-year-old on Wednesday, with the France Under-21s striker joining for a reported £27.5m (€32m) plus performance-related add-ons.

Everton were in the market for a centre-forward due in part to the departure of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who confirmed his exit on a free transfer at the end of June.

Barry becomes Everton's second addition of the transfer window, after they made Carlos Alcaraz's loan permanent, but Moyes wants to see more players come through the door.

"We are delighted to have brought Thierno to the club. We see lots of potential and we are hoping for good things from him," Moyes told Everton's official website.

"We will give him plenty of time to settle in and we are looking forward to getting started working with him as soon as possible.

"I'm hoping to make more additions in the coming weeks."

In signing Barry, Everton will hope they have secured fierce competition for Beto, who enjoyed a fine run following Moyes' arrival in January.

Beto scored seven Premier League goals under Moyes, but Barry enjoyed a brilliant season overall.

After netting eight goals in all competitions for Basel at the start of the campaign, he sealed a switch to Villarreal.

Moyes will be hoping to make the most of Barry's aerial prowess. Only three players had more headed shots than Barry (three) in LaLiga across last term.

He had the 10th most shots in total in Spain's top tier, though he did underperform his 12.5 expected goals by 1.5.
