More Details Revealed About Diogo Jota’s Death
Spanish authorities are investigating excessive speed as a potential cause of the crash that killed the Liverpool forward and his brother on July 3 in Zamora.
Traffic authorities continue investigation
The Spanish Civil Guard is still working to determine the exact cause of the tragic crash that claimed the lives of Diogo Jota, forward for Liverpool and the Portugal national team, and his brother André Silva. The accident took place early Thursday morning on the A-52 highway near Cernadilla, in the province of Zamora.
According to early findings, the vehicle involved was a Lamborghini Huracán, and evidence suggests that Diogo Jota was behind the wheel. The car veered off the road for reasons still under investigation, though a possible burst tire and excessive speed are among the leading hypotheses. Authorities are analyzing the skid marks left by the tires to determine the sequence of events.
Jota was heading to Santander for medical reasons
The fatal crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 3, at kilometer 65 of the A-52, while the brothers were driving toward Santander. According to close sources, Jota was planning to board a ferry to England rather than flying, due to a lung issue for which doctors had advised him to avoid air travel.
The Zamora Traffic Division is preparing the official technical report, which will be sent to the Court of First Instance and Instruction of Puebla de Sanabria, the entity handling the legal process related to the accident.
The loss of Diogo Jota, who was only 27 years old, has left the football community in shock. Known for his key role at Liverpool and his contributions to the Portuguese national team, his sudden death has been mourned by teammates, rivals, and fans across the globe.
