“I think it was an exceptional performance. I enjoyed every minute of it from the beginning to the end, and the beginning was tough,” the Spaniard said after the match.

His strongest message, however, came when assessing just how far his team can go. “I think it’s an indication for us of how capable we are to perform at an even higher level than last season,” Arteta said.

For Chelsea, the defeat brought their promising start under Xabi Alonso to a halt.

The Spanish coach was frustrated to leave the Emirates empty-handed but urged his players to keep perspective as they continue adapting to his ideas at Stamford Bridge.
