Mikel Arteta confirms that Arsenal will look for reinforcements in the winter transfer window.
Injuries force the 'Gunners' to be protagonists in January
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has officially confirmed that the London club will be 'actively seeking' reinforcements during the January 2025 transfer window. Despite investing over £250 million last summer, the wave of injuries that has plagued the squad in recent months has forced the board to reconsider its strategy for the second half of the season.
The defensive situation is the primary concern at the Emirates Stadium. With key figures like Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori, and Ben White sidelined, Arteta has been forced to improvise tactical solutions, even deploying Declan Rice as a right-back in recent matches. 'We are Arsenal and we have to be alert in the market; our job is to always be prepared because anything can happen,' the Spanish manager declared on the eve of the crucial clash against Aston Villa.
Strategic Objectives and Squad Depth
Although Arteta did not reveal specific names, the club's focus appears to be on regaining the necessary depth to compete in both the Premier League and the Champions League. Rumors surrounding the club suggest that the sporting department, now led by Andrea Berta, is evaluating profiles that align with the institution's long-term philosophy, avoiding temporary 'stopgaps' that do not provide future value.
Among the names circulating strongly are Ecuadorian defender Piero Hincapié and several young midfield talents, although the immediate priority seems to be bolstering a decimated defensive line. 'We want to be better, and we know how important it is to have the right availability of players at this stage of the campaign,' Arteta added. With Arsenal leading the table by a narrow margin, the moves made in the coming weeks could be decisive in ending a league title drought that has lasted for over two decades.
