Manchester City Pushes Forward With Two Key Contract Renewals
Manchester City are already working on two renewals considered essential for the future of Pep Guardiola’s project: Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol. Although both negotiations are progressing positively, the Catalan manager admitted ahead of the clash against Brentford that important details still need to be finalized before the deals become official.
Speaking at a press conference, Guardiola explained that talks are moving in the right direction, but the players’ signatures are still pending to complete the agreements. “I asked the sporting director and he told me they are close with Foden. Hopefully it gets done,” the manager said.
Foden Remains City’s Top Priority
The most urgent case is Phil Foden, whose current contract expires this month. The intention of Manchester City is to extend the deal until 2030 and establish the English star as one of the central figures of the club’s long-term project.
Since the arrival of Pep Guardiola, Foden has become one of the most important players in the squad. He has already made 365 appearances and scored 110 goals wearing the City shirt, while also winning every possible title with the club. His ability to play in multiple midfield and attacking positions makes him a crucial piece in Guardiola’s rotation system.
Even when he does not start matches, Guardiola still considers him a key player because of his tactical intelligence, movement and ability to step up in decisive moments. The manager believes Foden represents both the present and future of Manchester City.

Gvardiol Also Part of the Long-Term Plans
In the case of Josko Gvardiol, Guardiola also made it clear that he wants the Croatian defender to stay. “It’s not easy to find players like him,” the coach said about the center back, who recently returned after suffering a fracture that kept him sidelined for four months.
Gvardiol’s current contract runs until June 2028, but Manchester City want to secure his future before other European giants attempt to approach him. Despite the injury setback, Guardiola emphasized the importance of the defender within the squad. “He played practically every game and in the end the body said enough. I’m happy he’s back,” he explained.
The manager’s intention is for the defender to be fully recovered for next season. In addition, the player will represent Croatia at the FIFA World Cup, and the club believes a renewal would give him even more confidence moving forward.
Negotiations for both renewals continue to progress positively and, although nothing has been made official yet, everything points toward Manchester City announcing the continuity of two players considered fundamental to Pep Guardiola’s project in the coming days.
