'It's in the DNA at Everton' – Moyes thrilled with 'magnificent' Villa Park win
Everton caused Aston Villa a whole load of problems on Sunday and walked away from Villa Park with a deserved three points.
David Moyes says "it's in the DNA at Everton" to dig out "magnificent" wins, after they earned a 1-0 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Thierno Barry scored the all-important goal for Everton in the 59th minute, denying Unai Emery's side a chance to move second in the table.
It also ended the hosts' 11-game winning streak at Villa Park, with Everton enjoying their first league win over Villa since March 2016, ending a 13-match winless streak against them in the top flight (D4 L9).
Everton also hit the post with just 11 seconds on the clock, and had a first-half goal disallowed as Harrison Armstrong interfered with play from an offside position before Jake O'Brien nodded in.
Only Arsenal (six) have won more away games in the Premier League this season than Everton (five).
In fact, since Moyes' first away league game back in charge of the club in January 2025, the Toffees' 10 wins on the road in the competition are the joint-most of any side, along with Arsenal.
"It was magnificent. It's been a pretty difficult week for us, but we got over that," Moyes told Sky Sports.
"Coming here is never easy. The boys started well, and we took confidence from it. We hit the post right away. Overall, I'm really pleased with the performance.
"We want to make more chances. We didn't create loads. The clean sheet is why we could nick the game. They made a mistake. Dwight [McNeil] got a shot on target, and the centre-forward is following it up.
"Some credit to the players. It's in the DNA at Everton; we can dig wins out."
After scoring just once in his first 18 Premier League appearances, Barry has since scored three goals in his last four.
Indeed, no player has scored more league goals for Everton this season than the Frenchman (four, level with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye).
"I am very happy. I scored again, and we won," Barry told BBC MOTD.
"All is perfect today. It is my job, and I need to score. I didn't score a lot, but I always tried to score. Today I had one chance, and I put it in, so I am happy."
