Inter Milan's sporting director, Piero Ausilio, has confirmed the Serie A giants are interested in signing Cristian Romero from Tottenham. 

Romero initially joined Spurs on loan from Atalanta in 2021 before making the move permanent the following season, but he is reportedly keen to leave the club this summer. 

The 28-year-old is valued at around €50m (£42.6m) after making 156 appearances for Spurs across all competitions. 

He captained the team to Europa League glory in 2024-25, but then endured four separate suspensions last season as Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League. 

Romero has been tipped to depart following the additions of Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi, with Roberto De Zerbi also saying that any players who were not committed to Spurs were free to leave during the transfer window. 

And a transfer to Serie A champions Inter looks to be on the cards for Romero, though Ausilio has conceded a move for the Argentina international could be a lengthy process. 

"It's definitely a deal we are trying to sign with the player and the club," Ausilo said when asked about Romero.

"These things take some time, but there's definite interest. Let's see."

Romero would join Inter off the back of a difficult campaign with Spurs in 2025-26, where he was part of a defence that shipped 57 goals in the Premier League.

Only relegated trio West Ham (65), Wolves (68) and Burnley (75) conceded more in the English top flight. 

He would, however, bolster Inter's defensive options after centre-backs Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij's exits on free transfers this summer. 

Manuel Akanji, who spent last season on loan with Cristian Chivu's side, has already completed a permanent move to Inter.
