Guehi in line to make Man City debut against Wolves
After completing his reported £20m switch earlier this week, Marc Guehi will line up for Manchester City against Wolves this Saturday.
Pep Guardiola has revealed that Marc Guehi is in line to make his Manchester City debut against Wolves in the Premier League this weekend.
Guehi joined the Citizens for a reported £20m transfer fee from Crystal Palace earlier this week, putting pen to paper on a five-and-a-half year deal.
The 25-year-old's arrival strengthens Guardiola's centre-back options, with both Josko Gvardiol and Ruben Dias sidelined after sustaining long-term injuries earlier this month.
The England international is City's second January arrival, following Antoine Semenyo, who joined for a reported £62.5m fee, through the doors at Etihad Stadium.
And ahead of welcoming bottom-club Wolves to Manchester this Saturday, Guardiola confirmed that Guehi is likely to feature from the start.
"Yes, yes. Really good [signing] considering he is a central defender. Really good," Guardiola said when asked if Guehi was in line to make his debut this weekend.
Though they have lost just one of their last 10 Premier League games (W6 D3), City are winless in their last four (D3 L1).
They last went longer without a win between October and November 2009 (seven consecutive draws under Mark Hughes), and Guardiola explained that Guehi's arrival alone would not improve the fragility of his team's defence of late.
"He is a player for the national team and was a captain last season. I have a feeling yes, but the fragility is not just about one player," Guardiola said.
"I know the solution, and it's not about one player. We cannot lose games.
"Man City is so perfect that we cannot lose games. It is what it is. We have to change the dynamic to try to win games tomorrow and Wednesday."
A victory for Guardiola's side would move them to within four points of leaders Arsenal, who take on a resurgent Manchester United at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
According to the Opta supercomputer, the Citizens have just a 4.3% chance of overhauling Arsenal, with the Gunners winning the title in 93.1% of its season simulations.
Arsenal are also top of the Champions League table and into the last 16 of the competition, while also holding a one-goal advantage in their EFL Cup semi-final with Chelsea.
"The best team right now in the world," Guardiola said of Mikel Arteta's team. "Look at the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup.
"Hopefully, we can be close and hope they give us one chance to get them."
