A new beginning

Alejandro Garnacho, 22, left behind his irregular stint at Chelsea and joined Aston Villa on loan, with an option to buy for around $42.8 million. The Argentine, who had arrived at Stamford Bridge from Manchester United for $53.5 million, failed to establish himself under Xabi Alonso's orders. In the last season, he contributed four goals and eight assists in 43 matches, numbers that were not enough to prevent the Blues from finishing in the tenth position in the Premier League.

Emery, key to the trust

In his first interview as a Villans player, Garnacho acknowledged that Unai Emery was instrumental in taking this step. "I think I was looking for a club that would give me confidence and help me become the player I was in my early years at United. I spoke with the coach and he gave me that confidence," he expressed. The winger also highlighted the importance of playing in the Champions League with Villa, after having seen them compete in the Europa League last season. "I spoke with Unai before coming, and that gave me the confidence," he added.

The challenge that lies ahead

The Argentine hopes to regain the form that made him one of Europe's most promising talents, when in 2024-25 he recorded 11 goals and 10 assists with United. Now, with the number 17 jersey at Villa Park, Garnacho is preparing to face PSG in the UEFA Super Cup on August 12 and then start the Premier League against Brighton on the 23rd. With Emery's support and a solid project in Birmingham, the winger is confident that this new chapter will allow him to rediscover his best form and become a key player in English football once again.
