Fulham 2-1 Brighton: Wilson's stoppage-time free-kick snatches dramatic victory
Harry Wilson's contract with Fulham is set to expire at the end of the season, but he made another matchwinning contribution on Saturday.
Harry Wilson was Fulham's hero as his last-gasp free-kick saw Fulham claim a dramatic 2-1 win over Brighton.
The Wales international snatched all three points for the hosts in the 92nd minute at Craven Cottage, where Yasin Ayari's stunning first-half attempt was cancelled out by the returning Samuel Chukwueze.
Raul Jimenez had the first decent opportunity of the contest, neatly turning away from his marker before drawing a save from Bart Verbruggen at his near post in the 24th minute.
Yet, Brighton struck first just four minutes later, with Ayari firing into the roof of the net from just inside the area.
Timothy Castagne denied Ferdi Kadioglu on the line soon after as the Seagulls looked to press home their advantage.
However, Fulham dragged themselves level in the 72nd minute as substitute Chukwueze, just back from the Africa Cup of Nations, controlled Joachim Andersen's long ball before sweeping past Verbruggen.
Danny Welbeck thought he had restored Brighton's advantage just a minute later, but the striker saw his neat finish ruled out for offside following a VAR review.
Nevertheless, there was still time for a dramatic twist in the second minute of stoppage time, when Verbruggen could only help Wilson's fierce free-kick into the roof of the net, as the hosts climbed into the top half of the Premier League table.
Data Debrief: Wilson the matchwinner
Wilson's eighth goal of the season also represented his 11th direct involvement (seven goals, four assists) since the start of November, with only Erling Haaland (12) registering more during that period.
The Wales winger's third goal from outside the box this term is only bettered by Antoine Semenyo (four), while it was also his first top-flight goal directly from a free-kick since netting for Bournemouth against Tottenham in November 2019.
It marked the first time Brighton have lost a Premier League game courtesy of a 90th-minute winner for the opposition since their 2-1 defeat by Tottenham in February 2024.
The Seagulls remain without a Premier League victory in six attempts at Craven Cottage, only visiting Manchester City (nine) and Leicester City (seven) more often in the competition without ever winning.
Following Chukwueze's equaliser, no side has had more Premier League goals scored by substitutes since the start of last season (excluding own-goals) than Fulham (24 – level with Brighton).
