Former PSG and Dortmund full-back Meunier joins Sunderland
Thomas Meunier, fresh off the back of playing for Belgium at the 2026 World Cup, has joined Sunderland on a free transfer.
Sunderland have confirmed the arrival of experienced defender Thomas Muenier.
The full-back, who was featuring for Belgium at the World Cup over the last month, has penned a two-year deal at the Stadium of Light.
Meunier has signed on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Lille.
Prior to his spell at Lille, Meunier spent a short time at Trabzonspor in Turkiye, following a three-and-a-half-year stint at Borussia Dortmund, who he joined from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020.
"I'm very happy to be here and to begin this new chapter in my career," said Meunier.
"The Premier League is one of the most competitive and exciting leagues in the world, and it's a challenge I've wanted to experience.
"When I spoke with the club, I was impressed by the ambition, the project and the desire to keep moving forward. Competing in Europe was also a big factor in my decision because, as a player, you always want to test yourself against the best teams and compete for trophies.
"I hope I can bring my experience to the squad, both on and off the pitch."
Sunderland finished seventh in the Premier League last season, enjoying a fantastic campaign back in the big time.
Regis Le Bris' team will be competing in the Europa League in 2026-27.
The Black Cats have also managed to fend off Chelsea's interest in captain Granit Xhaka.
