Darwin Núñez Leaves Liverpool: Reaches Agreement With Al Hilal and Heads to Saudi Arabia
He seemed untouchable, but everything changed. Darwin Núñez is on the verge of leaving Liverpool, and his next destination is Saudi Arabia. Al Hilal’s project is tempting, the money talks… and the Premier League is about to lose another goalscorer.
Saudi Arabia calls… and Liverpool opens the door
Darwin Núñez’s future looks increasingly distant from Anfield. According to journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic, Liverpool and Al Hilal have reached a verbal agreement for the striker’s transfer, worth €53 million plus performance-related add-ons. While the official announcement is still pending, the English club has already allowed the player to negotiate personal terms with the Saudi side.
The 26-year-old has reportedly accepted Al Hilal’s lucrative proposal, which sped up talks in recent days. The Saudi club made him a priority target as of last Sunday and moved quickly to finalize the deal. AC Milan had also shown interest, but Saudi Arabia’s financial power ultimately proved decisive.
A farewell that had been building up
Although Darwin Núñez arrived at Liverpool as one of the club’s most exciting signings, he never quite established himself as an undisputed starter. Over three seasons, he scored 40 goals, but started just eight matches in the Premier League last season — one the club went on to win. His lack of consistency, combined with a squad overhaul, led the club to greenlight his departure.
Back in January, Liverpool had turned down a €70 million offer from Al Nassr, citing sporting reasons. But now, with the summer window open and a new chapter ahead, the club has decided to accept Al Hilal’s offer. Only a few final details remain… and Darwin’s time in the Premier League will come to an end.
