Crisis at Manchester United: Joshua Zirkzee Wants to Leave the Club as Soon as Possible
Joshua Zirkzee’s patience has run out. The Dutch striker wants to leave Manchester United in January after losing playing time and prominence under Rúben Amorim.
Frustration at Old Trafford
The tension between Joshua Zirkzee and Manchester United seems to have reached a breaking point. According to the Daily Mail, the Dutch striker is “seriously frustrated” by his lack of opportunities and has asked to leave the club during the winter transfer window.
Despite being one of the team’s most promising attacking options, Zirkzee has played just 82 minutes so far this season, appearing in three Premier League games without starting a single one.
From rising star to forgotten striker
When Rúben Amorim took over at Old Trafford last November, Zirkzee enjoyed regular playing time, featuring in 21 consecutive Premier League matches before a hamstring injury cut his season short. However, the arrival of three new forwards over the summer completely changed his situation.
Now 24 years old, Zirkzee has slipped down the pecking order and fears this lack of minutes could jeopardize his chances with the Netherlands national team, especially after being left out of Ronald Koeman’s latest squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Looking for a January exit
Both the Daily Mail and The Sun report that Zirkzee is actively seeking a move in January, with several clubs already interested in signing him. Over the summer, Juventus and Napoli made offers, but United rejected them. Now, Cesc Fàbregas’ Como has emerged as a new contender, looking to strengthen their attacking line in Serie A.
Even so, United are unsure whether they’ll allow him to leave — especially after Rasmus Højlund’s departure to Napoli. Everything points to another standoff between the player and the club, as Zirkzee fights for minutes… and Amorim shows no signs of giving them.
