Trevoh Chalobah said one conversation with Cesc Fabregas was all he needed to be persuaded to leave Chelsea and join him at Como. 

Chalobah, who played alongside Fabregas for one season in 2018-19 at Chelsea, completed his move to Como on Sunday in a deal reportedly worth up to €35m (£30m). 

The 27-year-old put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the Serie A side, ending his 19-year stay at Stamford Bridge having risen through their academy. 

During his time with the Blues, Chalobah made 151 appearances across all competitions, winning five major honours, including the Club World Cup and the Conference League. 

He joins a Como side preparing for their first season in the Champions League after finishing fourth in Serie A in 2025-26. They are the 16th different team from the Italian top flight to be a part of Europe's elite competition. 

Chalobah also adds experience to Como's already solid defence. They conceded just 29 goals in Serie A last season, the fewest of any team in the division. 

But when asked about the reason behind his move to Italy, Chalobah revealed that a call with Fabregas drove the deal to get signed, sealed and delivered. 

"The call with Cesc was really good, he showed how much he wanted me," said Chalobah.

"Knowing Cesc, obviously, he's been at Chelsea, and I trained with him when I was younger. Now, obviously playing under him will be amazing.

"For sure, I'll give it my all. I'm excited about this new journey."

Chalobah is Como's seventh signing this summer, following Alvaro Morata, Mattia Liberali, Luis Milla, Yan Couto, Andres Cuenca and Kaikai into the club. 

He could be in line to make his debut this Wednesday against Arsenal, a team he has played against eight times in all competitions, failing to win any of them (D1 L7). 

Como then face Liverpool and Alula SC before beginning their Serie A campaign away to Udinese, but before turning out for his new team, Chalobah took the time to thank Chelsea in an emotional farewell. 

"An 8-year-old boy walked through those doors. A man walks out. Dream lived. Purpose fulfilled," Chalobah posted to social media.

"To every academy player at Chelsea: keep believing. Your time will come. Never give up. 

"After 18 years, it's time to say goodbye to Chelsea. I arrived as a nine-year-old with a dream, and I leave as a man who’s lived that dream in ways I never imagined.

"This journey tested me, lifted me, and strengthened me. To every team-mate, coach, staff member, and supporter, thank you for shaping me.

"I gave everything I had, and I'm proud of the person this club helped me become.

"To the young players, the path won't always be smooth. But stay ready, stay positive, and keep your faith.
