A record pass in the Premier League

Chelsea officially announced the sale of Liam Delap to Nottingham Forest in a deal that could reach up to 50 million pounds, a figure that sets an absolute record for the "Reds" club. The 23-year-old forward signed a five-season contract, until June 2031, in search of reviving his career after an uneven stint at Stamford Bridge. The agreement includes a fixed payment of 45 million plus 5 million in variables, just a year after Chelsea bought him from Ipswich Town for 30 million.

The stint at Chelsea and the expectations in Nottingham

Delap had shone at Ipswich with 12 goals in the Premier League, but during his time with the Blues, he barely scored one in the league, totaling three goals in 47 official matches. Even so, he was part of the squad that won the Club World Cup. At his presentation, the forward appeared enthusiastic: "I really can't wait to get started; this is a huge club with a great history. I spoke with the coach and I like his way. I believe he can be the one to help me take the next step, and I hope to bring goals here." He also highlighted the importance of the fans: "I can't wait to hear the noise at the City Ground and have the fans on my side, because I know how important they are."

Forest bets big to grow in the Premier

Nottingham Forest had already set a previous record with the purchase of Omari Hutchinson for 37.5 million in 2025, but now they are doubling down with Delap. The forward is seeking continuity after just 12 starts at Chelsea and 1,102 minutes in the Premier League, with a performance below expectations, one goal against 4.5 xG, and a 2.8% shot accuracy. Forest, who started the season with a defeat against Leeds United, will try to bounce back against Liverpool next Saturday. With Delap, the vision is clear, to build a competitive project and establish themselves as a key player in the top English division.
