Casemiro Set to Leave Manchester United at the End of the Season
Casemiro’s time at Old Trafford is coming to an end. After four seasons, the Brazilian has decided the moment has arrived to say goodbye.
The end of an era at Old Trafford
Manchester United have confirmed that Casemiro will leave the club at the end of the current season. The decision was announced on Thursday, with the club opting not to activate the option to extend the Brazilian midfielder’s contract beyond June.
“I’ve decided these will be my final four months at Old Trafford,” Casemiro wrote on social media, officially confirming that the 2025–26 campaign will mark the end of his time as a Red Devil after four seasons at the club.
A key signing from Real Madrid
Casemiro arrived at Manchester United in 2022 from Real Madrid in a deal worth around €70 million, quickly becoming one of the Premier League’s highest-paid players. Despite joining a side that struggled for consistency under four different managers, the Brazilian established himself as a leader in midfield.
During his time in England, Casemiro made 146 appearances, scoring 21 goals and providing 13 assists, numbers that underline his impact well beyond his defensive responsibilities.
Trophies and fan favorite status
Casemiro’s influence was felt immediately. He won the EFL Cup (Carabao Cup) in his first season at the club in 2023 and added the FA Cup in 2024, playing a central role in both triumphs.
In a club statement, United paid tribute to his contribution:
“A serial winner, we thank ‘Case’ for everything he has given in a red shirt and look forward to finishing this chapter together on a high.”
His combative nature and knack for scoring in big moments quickly made him a favorite among the Old Trafford faithful.
Knowing when to say goodbye
United held an option to extend Casemiro’s deal until June 2027, but both parties agreed it was time to move on. The midfielder himself addressed the moment with clarity and emotion.
“You have to know when a chapter comes to an end,” Casemiro wrote. “Know when to say goodbye, when you feel you’ll be remembered and respected forever. Four months to give everything for this badge and our goal.”
He will now leave the club as a free agent at the end of the season.
“My best version was at United”
Reflecting on his spell in England, Casemiro has been clear about how much it meant to him. In a past interview with AS, he stated:
“Individually, my best season as a footballer was my first one at Manchester United.”
While fully acknowledging his legendary and trophy-laden career with Real Madrid, the Brazilian believes that Old Trafford witnessed the best version of him as a player.
