Carrick Clarifies Rumors About His Future
The work of Michael Carrick at the helm of Manchester United has been one of the major positive surprises of the season. The interim manager managed to lift the team after a difficult start in the Premier League, and now has the club qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League, something that seemed far away just a few months ago.
Inside Manchester United, Carrick is considered the main candidate to remain in charge next season. However, the board is still evaluating other options before making a final decision.
In England, important names such as Andoni Iraola and Julian Nagelsmann have emerged as possible candidates to take over the club’s sporting project. These rumors have created noise around Old Trafford, although Carrick has stated that the situation does not affect his work.
“Whether it is talked about or not, it has not affected me. I have confidence in our work. It is obvious that this process takes time and that in the end they will find the right person,” the manager said in a press conference.
Sporting Impact and Dressing Room Support
Beyond the rumors, Carrick appears to have earned something crucial within Manchester United: full backing from the dressing room. Several players have highlighted his leadership and the way he quickly restored confidence within the group.
That impact is also reflected in results. Under his guidance, Manchester United has played 15 matches and lost only two. In addition, the team currently sits third in the Premier League and has secured its return to the UEFA Champions League.
One of the most notable aspects of his management has been the footballing improvement of several players. The clearest example is Benjamin Sesko, who already has 11 goals in the Premier League and has become one of the team’s standout attacking figures.
It is worth remembering that Carrick arrived as interim coach in January with the mission of stabilizing the club until the end of the season. However, his results have forced the board to seriously consider extending his tenure.
The club’s sporting planning for next season depends directly on that decision. Manchester United must soon define its manager in order to begin working on transfers, departures, and objectives for a campaign in which they will once again compete in both the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League, a competition they have not won since the 2012/13 season.
Dressing room support could ultimately become the decisive factor. Starting over again with another coach would be a major risk for a club that urgently needs stability.
