Erling Haaland is English football's best ever goalscorer, so says former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher.

Haaland struck his ninth league goal of the season for Manchester City on Sunday, with his early strike enough to see off Brentford 1-0.

The 25-year-old has already netted 15 times this term in all competitions, slightly outperforming his 14.1 expected goals (xG). Since joining City in 2022, Haaland has plundered 136 goals in 155 appearances, averaging a strike every 93 minutes.

Haaland is the second Premier League player to score 15 goals across all competitions in a season before the end of October twice (2022-23 and 2025-26), along with Alan Shearer in 1992-93 (October 6) and 1995-96 (October 28) for Blackburn Rovers.

He has found the back of the net in nine straight games for club and country (six goals in two matches for Norway, 10 in seven for City), marking the longest scoring streak of his top-flight and international career.

And Carragher feels Haaland is operating at a different level to any goalscorer that has previously graced the English game.

"I think we're watching the greatest goalscorer to ever play in English football," Carragher said on Sky Sports' Super Sunday: Extra Time.

"I honestly can't remember Jimmy Greaves, Dixie Dean and all those players from years ago. But I think of Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer, Harry Kane and Ian Rush for my club Liverpool.

"There's a difference for me between a great centre-forward or striker and a goalscorer.

"I think what we're witnessing now is something we've never seen before in our game and don't forget, this is a club where the goalscorer beforehand was Sergio Aguero, one of the greatest we'll ever see.

"This is on a completely different level to Aguero. He's the best."

Haaland has scored 94 Premier League goals for Pep Guardiola at City, now the 10th most goals scored by a player for a manager in the competition's history, despite him only featuring 104 times under the Spaniard so far.

Having already become the quickest player to reach 50 Champions League goals, doing so in 49 games, Haaland looks all set to break the Premier League record for the fastest to 100 goals, which is currently held by Shearer (124 matches).

Incredibly, Haaland has already outscored nine teams in the Premier League this season (Fulham, Burnley, Leeds United, Sunderland, Aston Villa, Newcastle United, West Ham, Nottingham Forest and Wolves).
