Bournemouth’s Adli ‘very hyped’ after brave start
Bournemouth have made a strong start to their Premier League campaign but face a tough test against Leeds United at Elland Road next.
Amine Adli has expressed his excitement for the rest of the season as he is “very hyped” after Bournemouth’s strong start to their campaign.
The Cherries are currently fourth in the Premier League, level on points with Arsenal and Tottenham above them, and are unbeaten since their opening-day defeat at Liverpool.
Adli, who joined from Bayer Leverkusen in the transfer window, has only made four substitute appearances so far in the league.
The Morocco international is optimistic about what Bournemouth can achieve this season, with a trip to Leeds United next up, but he has not set himself any targets.
“To be honest, my ambition is to perform as much as I can with my team and give 100% every time on the pitch,” Adli told the Bournemouth website.
“When I saw the team and the bravery we have, I’m just looking forward to the season because I think we could have a very good one.
“I would really like to achieve big things with this locker room.
“I won’t give targets or anything like this, but for sure, I’m very hyped about this season and to give something great.”
Leeds’ 3-1 win against Wolves last time out saw them move up to 12th in the league table with seven points from their opening five games.
They are yet to concede in their two Premier League games at home so far, and defender Pascal Struijk believes their fans can help continue their promising start at Elland Road.
“I see chances for us to gain more points,” Struijk told Premier League Productions.
“They're [Bournemouth] a decent team, they've got a good coach, they've got them performing since last year and they've obviously started well in the league.
“Our fans, every single year I say this, they're amazing. When we go to Elland Road and we play at home, we feel like we've got an extra player on the team.
“When the crowd gets going, I've not experienced anything like it. So, yeah, when the game is starting and they are there behind us, we can play extra well.”
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Leeds United – Noah Okafor
Okafor scored his first Premier League goal in Leeds’ win over Wolves, and it was an impressive performance from the Switzerland forward.
He made 14 dribbles in their victory at Molineux, the most by a player in a Premier League match so far this season and most by a Leeds player in a top-flight match on record.
Bournemouth – Antoine Semenyo
Semenyo has enjoyed a strong start to the season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in the Premier League.
Only Erling Haaland (six) has scored more goals in the Premier League than Semenyo so far, while the Ghanian is joint-fifth in terms of assists.
MATCH PREDICTION – BOURNEMOUTH WIN
Only Newcastle (37) have faced fewer shots in the Premier League so far this season than Bournemouth (40). Since facing 19 shots against Liverpool, they haven’t allowed their opponents more than six shots in any of their last four games.
Bournemouth have made their joint-best start to a Premier League campaign after five games (10 points – W3 D1 L1), along with the 10 points they picked up in 2018-19. It’s the first time the Cherries will go into a Premier League game as high as fourth when they’ve played more than two games in a season.
The last league match between Leeds and Bournemouth saw the Cherries win 4-1 in April 2023 in what was Javi Gracia’s final game in charge of the Whites. Bournemouth have never won back-to-back league meetings with the Yorkshire club.
Leeds have won all seven of their home league games against Bournemouth, scoring 18 goals in the process; it’s the most they’ve faced a side on home soil with a 100% win rate in their league history.
The Whites are yet to concede a goal at Elland Road in the Premier League this season. The only two newly promoted clubs to keep a clean sheet in their first three games of a season are Swansea City in 2011-12 and Watford in 2015-16.
Leeds are also unbeaten in 22 home league games (W18 D4), keeping a clean sheet in 15 of those games and conceding only eight goals. The Whites have kept a clean sheet in their last four at Elland Road, last having a longer run in December and January in 2016-17 under Garry Monk (six in a row).
