Bournemouth Thrashes Aston Villa 3-0 and Cook Dreams of Winning a Title
Lewis Cook is confident that the quality of Bournemouth's squad is enough to compete for a title this season.
Midfielder Lewis Cook believes the quality in Bournemouth's squad can help them win a trophy this season, after reaching the EFL Cup quarter-finals. The team made it five wins from five in all competitions with a 3-0 victory over Aston Villa, with goals from Amine Adli, Cook and Álvaro Rodríguez at the Vitality Stadium. The Cherries had been eliminated in each of their last four EFL Cup matches against fellow Premier League sides, but now they will visit Anfield to face Liverpool in the last eight.
A strong run of form
After a difficult start to the season, Bournemouth have impressed with victories over AC Milan in the Europa League and Manchester United. With their win at Old Trafford, they became the third team to go seven Premier League games unbeaten against Man Utd, along with Chelsea and Liverpool. Marco Rose made eight changes to the side that beat the Red Devils, and Cook believes that strength in depth will be crucial to competing across all fronts. The club, he said, has high ambitions and the aim is to try to win silverware. On Saturday they will look to maintain their momentum against Leeds United.
Villa's perspective
For Aston Villa, their four-game winning run across all competitions came to an end, along with a rare defeat against Bournemouth, their first since the 2022-23 season. Unai Emery quickly turned his attention to the Premier League, saying his team must be compact and avoid the chances their opponents create. He also noted they were not clinical in attack and that they now focus on Fulham, with the Premier League as the priority, followed by the Champions League and FA Cup. The EFL Cup was a competition they were excited and motivated to win something in, but after the elimination he thanked the supporters who travelled from Birmingham and said they keep going forward.
