Arsenal on Alert: Martin Ødegaard Withdraws from Norway Squad Due to Knee Injury
Arsenal have been dealt another injury scare as captain Martin Ødegaard has withdrawn from the Norway national team for the October international window after suffering a knee injury.
Norway’s team doctor, Ola Sand, confirmed that Ødegaard “is not ready to play during this camp” and that Arsenal’s medical staff will now oversee his recovery.
What Injury Did Ødegaard Suffer?
The incident occurred during Arsenal’s Premier League match against West Ham United, when Ødegaard collided knee-to-knee with Crysencio Summerville. The midfielder was forced to leave the pitch and was later spotted wearing a knee brace — a worrying sign for the London club.
Medical examinations revealed ligament damage, though the exact severity has yet to be determined by Arsenal’s doctors. The uncertainty has raised concern both in North London and within Ståle Solbakken’s national team setup.
“Of course, it’s very unfortunate,” said Solbakken. “Luckily, the news came early enough for us to prepare the players who will take part in Saturday’s match.”
A Season Already Plagued by Injuries
It’s been a difficult start to the season for Ødegaard, who has already struggled with various physical issues. In recent Premier League matches, he has been substituted three times due to discomfort — including two prior incidents linked to a shoulder problem.
The ongoing fitness concerns threaten to disrupt the rhythm of Arsenal’s captain, whose creativity, pressing, and leadership have been vital under Mikel Arteta’s system.

Which Matches Could He Miss for Arsenal?
Without an official recovery timeline, Ødegaard could be sidelined for several key fixtures in October:
- Fulham – October 18 (Premier League)
- Atlético Madrid – October 21 (Champions League)
- Crystal Palace – October 26 (Premier League)
- Brighton & Hove Albion – October 29 (EFL Cup)
Should his recovery extend into November, he might also miss crucial matches against Burnley, Slavia Prague, Sunderland, Tottenham, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea.
