Arsenal has just completed one of the biggest moves of the transfer window. After several months of negotiations, the Gunners officially announced the arrival of Bruno Guimarães on Saturday, with the Brazilian leaving Newcastle United to become one of the London club's major new signings.

According to reports surrounding the deal, Arsenal reached an agreement with Newcastle for a fee in the region of €90 million. The 27-year-old midfielder has signed a five-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2031.

The move represents a major investment for an Arsenal side looking to take another step forward in its project. The Gunners can now bring together two of the most complete midfielders in the Premier League: Bruno Guimarães and Declan Rice.

Bruno Guimarães Could Free Up Declan Rice

The big question now is how Guimarães will fit into a midfield that already features Declan Rice as one of its most important players.

On paper, the two could complement each other perfectly.

The Brazilian has the ability to receive the ball from deep, handle pressure from opponents, and help his team break lines with vertical passes. He can also take on defensive responsibilities and operate in a deeper position when the match requires it.

That could give Rice even greater freedom, as the England international has shown that his influence increases when he is allowed to move away from the holding midfield role and operate further up the pitch.

With Guimarães helping in the build-up and taking on much of the responsibility at the base of midfield, Rice would have more opportunities to press higher, attack spaces, make runs into the box, and take advantage of an attacking side of his game that has become increasingly important.

There is also the possibility of the two switching roles during matches. Both have enough quality and tactical awareness to alternate between the holding midfield and No. 8 roles depending on the situation.

A Midfield With Much More Control

The Brazilian's arrival also gives Arsenal an important weapon against teams that press high up the pitch.

Guimarães is already accustomed to the intensity of the Premier League and will not need to adapt to English football. His ability to play under pressure could help the Gunners gain greater control in tight matches and provide another solution when opponents attempt to shut down the midfield.

His intensity without the ball also fits a team that wants to regain possession quickly after losing it.

The partnership with Rice could therefore become one of the new Arsenal's greatest strengths. Rather than competing for the same position, their different qualities could create a midfield partnership capable of providing ball recovery, build-up play, physical presence, and attacking runs into the box.

For Newcastle, meanwhile, the deal represents the loss of a player who had become one of the central figures of its project.

Arsenal is paying a significant fee, but it is getting a player already proven in the Premier League and, above all, someone who could make Declan Rice even more influential. If the pair quickly finds the right balance, the Gunners may have built one of the most complete midfield partnerships in English football.
