Are These Lisandro Martínez’s Final Months at Old Trafford? Manchester United to Assess His Future
The Argentine defender's situation at Old Trafford has become increasingly uncertain in recent weeks. Manchester United is reportedly preparing a meeting that could mark a turning point in his relationship with the club.
Lisandro Martínez has gone from being a regular presence in the Manchester United defense to one of the team's most questioned players. His comments about the club's hierarchy and recent performances have created tension surrounding his position.
The situation began following a 2-0 defeat to Atlético de Madrid, when Martínez expressed his frustration with the club's sporting decisions and publicly criticized Jason Wilcox, the Red Devils' sporting director.
Later, another setback followed: his sending-off during a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea. The defender conceded a penalty and received a second yellow card, while Michael Carrick opted to leave him on the bench for the next Champions League fixture against Roma.
Manchester United and Martínez Set to Discuss His Future
According to Fabrizio Romano, the meeting scheduled for November will address several issues, including the Argentine's recent conduct, performances and potential future with the team.
The meeting comes at a particularly delicate time due to the defender's contract situation. His contract expires at the end of the season, although Manchester United have the option to automatically extend it for another 12 months.
Could Lisandro Martínez Leave in the January Transfer Window?
A potential January departure has not been ruled out. United will have to consider whether to negotiate a deal for the Argentine during the upcoming transfer window or wait until the end of the season before making a final decision.
The problem is that the team does not have many defensive alternatives. Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven are among the available options, although injuries and the inexperience of some players could complicate an early departure.
Meanwhile, Ashley Young, a former United player, was blunt when discussing the Argentine and suggested the club should get rid of him as soon as possible, even during the January transfer window.

Michael Carrick Has Not Given Up on the Argentine Defender
Despite the controversy, Carrick said ahead of the Roma game that he had no concerns about Martínez's commitment to the team. However, his decision to leave him on the bench following the events against Chelsea made it clear that the defender will have to fight to reclaim his place in the starting lineup.
The manager also faces the challenge of finding stability in a defense that has struggled throughout the season. Losing Martínez in January would therefore force the club to find solutions in what could be a challenging transfer market.
