74 Million: Gyökeres and His Performance at Arsenal
The Swedish striker isn’t living up to expectations about his career; he isn’t scoring goals or connecting with the team.
Viktor Gyökeres: €74 million that doesn’t add up
The Swedish player has played in 26 matches for Arsenal. The Gunners paid €74 million; however, the results have not been as expected. The Arsenal striker has only scored eight goals in these matches. Having paid that amount of money, it would seem that the player has not lived up to the expectations imposed by his transfer fee.
His time in Portugal
At Sporting CP, the Swedish striker had scored 97 goals in 102 matches, an impressive tally, but playing outside one of the top five leagues led Arsenal’s management to question whether he could replicate his feat in the Premier League for the Gunners.
There’s no chemistry; it doesn't work
The truth is that it seems Gyökeres struggles to link up with the team; his movements are hesitant and at times not very fluid, and he also fails to convert scoring opportunities into goals.
For the time being, Viktor Gyökeres is one of Arsenal’s limited options, as the others are injured, including Kai Havertz; if he were to return, Gyökeres’s starting spot would be in jeopardy.
Gyökeres hanging by a thread
Arteta spoke about the Gunners’ striker, the expectations that have been created, and how Viktor Gyökeres and all No. 9s at big clubs must be able to meet certain expectations. Gyökeres needs to improve his performance with Arsenal, especially considering that the Gunners are currently top of the Premier League. If he fails to meet the expectations set by the fans and his own track record, his status as a starter is at risk.
