Tottenham Strikes Twice Before Halftime

The Etihad Stadium witnessed a surprising outcome on Matchday 3 of the Premier League. Tottenham Hotspur took control in the first half thanks to their sharp finishing at key moments. The opener came in the 35th minute when Brennan Johnson broke the deadlock after a fast transition led by Richarlison. The play was reviewed by VAR but was ultimately confirmed, raising tension among players and the home crowd.

The second blow came just before the break through an error by goalkeeper James Trafford, who misplayed the ball out from the back. It fell to João Palhinha, who calmly slotted it home, silencing the stadium before halftime. In just ten minutes, the London side had left Manchester City reeling, unable to find their usual fluency.

Guardiola Adjusts but Tottenham Holds Firm

In the second half, Pep Guardiola sought to change the dynamic by introducing Phil Foden and Rodri, aiming to regain possession and create superiority in the attacking third. However, Tottenham’s defense, anchored by a solid Cristian Romero, stood tall and shut down the hosts’ attempts. Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario was barely tested, highlighting City’s lack of penetration.

City managed just one shot on target in the entire second half, underlining the struggles of the reigning champions against the well-drilled setup of Thomas Frank.
