Manchester City Going All-In on The Club World Cup: "We Want a Renewed Squad to Win"
After one of the most disappointing seasons under Pep Guardiola, Manchester City has set its sights firmly on a single goal for 2025: winning the Club World Cup. Club president Khaldoon Al Mubarak confirmed in an official interview that the team will make significant signings to arrive at the international tournament with a fresh and competitive squad.
Manchester City will go all out for the Club World Cup
The 2024–25 campaign was undoubtedly the weakest in Guardiola’s tenure with the Citizens. With no major titles and falling short in both the Premier League and Champions League, the only silverware came from the Community Shield, a minor trophy that did little to satisfy expectations. Still, the team managed to secure a Champions League spot for next season, meeting the bare minimum.
Despite spending nearly €220 million in the January transfer window—bringing in players like Omar Marmoush, Nico González, Abbosbek Fayzullaev Khusanov, Vitor Reis, and Juma Bah—the results didn’t match the investment. Even so, the board remains committed and is preparing an even stronger spending spree to arrive fully armed at the Club World Cup, which will be held from June 14 to July 13, 2025.
Al Mubarak didn’t hold back in his analysis: “Looking back at last summer, I think we should have been more aggressive with some of the changes we needed to make. We weren’t—and it ended up costing us the season.” His message is clear: they won’t repeat the same mistake this summer.
FIFA has granted a special transfer window from June 1 to June 10, 2025, specifically for clubs participating in the tournament. Each team can register up to 35 players, with a minimum of 26 required on the final list. This gives clubs room to strengthen their squads, and City plans to take full advantage.

“We will continue investing in the coming weeks,” added the club president. “Our goal is to build a strong, refreshed squad to be ready for the Club World Cup. This tournament is now a top priority for us.”
With Real Madrid already making moves, including a coaching change, Manchester City wants to show that, despite a difficult season, it remains one of the world’s footballing powerhouses.
