Enzo Fernández reportedly turned down Real Madrid and Xabi Alonso to stay at Chelsea
Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández, who plays for Chelsea, will remain with the English side next season, putting an end to any talk linking him with Real Madrid, as confirmed this Friday by his manager, Enzo Maresca.
The 24-year-old, who’s under contract until 2032, had been the subject of speculation about a possible move at the end of the season. But Maresca, speaking ahead of Sunday’s big Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest, shut down those rumors.
Full backing from the coach
“Enzo is a key player for us — one of our captains, one of our leaders. He’s had a really good season and next year could be even better. So no, there’s no speculation. He’s focused on us and that’s what matters most,” said Maresca in his press conference.
When asked if the 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina would be staying next season, Maresca was crystal clear: “Yes.”
Key piece in the Blues’ project
Enzo Fernández joined Chelsea in January 2023 for €120 million and has since become one of the most influential players in the squad. This season, he’s scored seven goals and provided 17 assists.
Chelsea head into the final stretch of the campaign still in the fight for a Champions League spot — a win over Nottingham Forest would help — and also looking to lift the Conference League, where they’ll face Real Betis in the final on Wednesday, May 28 in Wrocław.
