Amorim Plans Major Clear Out at Manchester United
Manchester United is facing one of the most critical moments in its recent history. Following a disastrous season marked by inconsistency and poor results, a radical rebuild at Old Trafford is on the horizon. Leading the charge is Rúben Amorim, the Portuguese manager who already proved he can turn a team around from the ground up.

A Season to Forget
The 2024/25 campaign will go down as one of the darkest in the club modern era. United finished 15th in the Premier League, suffering 18 defeats and managing just 11 wins. To make matters worse, Tottenham won the Europa League denying the Red Devils their last chance at qualifying for the Champions League.
The on pitch struggles were matched by turmoil behind the scenes. Under Sir Jim Ratcliffe leadership, the club share value plummeted by 60%, highlighting the urgent need for bold and decisive action.
Almost Everyone for Sale
According to The Mirror, the United board is seriously considering offloading nearly half the squad. Even players once seen as untouchable Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire, André Onana, Kobbie Mainoo, and Alejandro Garnacho are reportedly on the market.
The strongest signal came in the final match of the season, when neither Onana nor Garnacho was included in Amorim squad to face Aston Villa at Old Trafford.
Amorim Has Done This Before
This wouldn’t be Amorim first major overhaul. Back in March 2020, he took over at Sporting CP during a turbulent time for the Portuguese giants. He quickly stamped his authority, ditching the previous 4-2-3-1 formation for a more dynamic 3-4-3 system.
At the end of the season, he made a bold decision: 17 players were either sold or loaned out. Amorim didn’t hesitate. He promoted several academy talents to the first team and trusted the club youth.
The results were remarkable. In the 2020/21 season, Sporting lost just one match on the final matchday against Benfica and lifted the league title for the first time in 19 years. Amorim went on to win three of the next five league championships, solidifying his reputation as a top-tier manager.
The Revolution Has Begun
Now with full control of the project at Manchester United, Amorim is preparing for a deep squad overhaul. His track record speaks for itself. He not afraid to make tough calls and if he can replicate the success he had in Portugal, the Red Devils long-awaited rebuild might be closer than fans expect.
