(PHOTOS) Try Not to Cry: The Etihad Says Goodbye to Kevin De Bruyne
Tuesday, May 20 marked the end of an era at the Etihad Stadium, as Kevin De Bruyne played his final home game for Manchester City in an emotional night against Bournemouth. The farewell wasn’t just a football match—it was a heartfelt tribute to one of the greatest players to ever wear the sky blue shirt.
A Monumental Tifo: Funded by Haaland
The highlight of the evening came when fans unveiled a massive tifo in De Bruyne’s honor, partially funded by teammate Erling Haaland, who donated €5,000 to help bring it to life.
The tifo depicted De Bruyne’s image alongside a powerful message:
"Maybe you’re not the same as me, we won the lot with KDB"
—an emotional twist on the lyrics from "Live Forever" by Oasis, Manchester’s iconic band. It was a moment that left many in the stands wiping away tears.
Tributes That Will Live On
Beyond the stadium tribute, Manchester City also unveiled a mosaic in the City Football Academy and renamed a street on the club’s campus to “Kevin De Bruyne Crescent”, permanently cementing the Belgian’s legacy within the club’s culture.
These gestures were part of a series of heartfelt homages orchestrated by the club and its supporters, recognizing the profound impact De Bruyne has had on the City project since his arrival in 2015.
