Sam Greenwood Joins Pogoń Szczecin: The Bold Move That Could Redefine His Career
From Arsenal’s academy to Poland’s top flight — Sam Greenwood’s next chapter could redefine the path for English talents abroad.
A Bold New Chapter in Poland
At just 23 years old, English attacking midfielder Sam Greenwood has embarked on a bold new chapter — leaving Leeds United to join Polish top-flight side Pogoń Szczecin on a permanent deal.
From Sunderland to Arsenal’s Academy
Born on 26 January 2002 in Sunderland, Greenwood began his football journey in the youth setups of Hebburn Town and Sunderland A.F.C. before earning a move in 2018 to Arsenal F.C.’s academy. He caught attention early with his scoring ability in youth football, notably in England’s U17 setup.
The Leeds United Years
In 2020, Greenwood joined Leeds United and gradually worked his way into the senior squad. He made first-team appearances in both the FA Cup and Premier League, including his league debut in December 2021. While he saw limited top-tier action (registering his first Premier League goal on 5 November 2022), his potential was clear.

Finding His Rhythm on Loan
Seeking consistent game time, Greenwood spent the following seasons on loan at Middlesbrough F.C. and Preston North End F.C. in England’s Championship. There he gained regular minutes, refined his game and showcased his versatility — operating as an attacking midfielder or forward.
Record Move to Pogoń Szczecin
The move to Pogoń Szczecin in August 2025 marks a significant transition. Reported figures suggest a fee around €4 million — making it one of the highest, if not the highest, in the club’s history. With a three-year contract plus an option for a fourth, Greenwood signals ambition both from his side and from Pogoń’s.
All Eyes on Greenwood’s Next Step
Technically gifted and tactically flexible, Greenwood is known for his set-piece ability, two-footedness and ability to affect games from multiple attacking positions. His move to Poland offers him the stage to become a key figure — and perhaps a trailblazer for English talent abroad.
As Greenwood dons the number 90 shirt in the Ekstraklasa, all eyes will be on his adaptation and influence at Pogoń. For a player who has already navigated youth success, Premier League moments and Championship grind, this new environment may just unlock the next phase of his growth.
