Marc Carbó: “Being Part of Wisła Kraków’s Promotion Is Something I Will Always Remember”
After helping Wisła Kraków secure promotion to the Ekstraklasa, Marc Carbó reflects on the club’s journey back to the top flight, working under Mariusz Jop, Ángel Rodado’s future, and his own next steps.
Wisła Kraków, one of the most historic and successful clubs in Polish football, is back in the Ekstraklasa after four seasons away from the top flight. The White Star's return marks the end of a difficult chapter for a club with a rich tradition, passionate supporters, and lofty ambitions.
Midfielder Marc Carbó has been an important part of that journey. The Spaniard spent three seasons fighting for promotion and played a key role in helping Wisła Kraków finally achieve its goal. In an interview with Daniel Sobis, Carbó spoke about the emotions of promotion, working under head coach Mariusz Jop, the future of Ángel Rodado, the rise of Wieczysta Kraków, and his own future at the club.
The Meaning Behind Wisła Kraków’s Promotion
Daniel Sobis: After four seasons away from the Ekstraklasa, Wisła Kraków has finally secured promotion. What does this achievement mean to you personally?
Marc Carbó: For me, it means a great deal. There have been years of hard work, difficult moments, and also personal and collective growth. To be part of this promotion with a club like Wisła Kraków and with such special supporters is something I will always remember.
Daniel Sobis: Why do you think Wisła took so long to return to the Ekstraklasa? What was missing in previous seasons?
Marc Carbó: I think the club has gone through a process. In football, not everything depends solely on sporting quality. Stability, continuity, and confidence are also very important factors. This year, everything came together and the team managed to take a step forward.
Daniel Sobis: Looking back, was there a particular moment when you felt promotion was truly within reach?
Marc Carbó: There were several important moments, but I think when the team started showing consistency and solidity on a regular basis, that was when we all began to feel that the objective was real.
Working Under Mariusz Jop and the Rise of Young Talent
Daniel Sobis: You worked under Mariusz Jop during this historic campaign. What kind of coach is he?
Marc Carbó: He is a very approachable coach, demanding at the same time, and very clear in his ideas. He has managed the group extremely well and has brought the best out of every player. That was crucial in achieving promotion.
Daniel Sobis: One of the revelations of the season has been Maciej Kuziemka. Have you been surprised by his development, and do you think he has what it takes to play for a major European club one day?
Marc Carbó: Yes, he has been one of the positive surprises. He has a lot of talent and enormous room for improvement. If he continues to work the way he does now, he certainly has the qualities to take important steps forward in his career.

Ángel Rodado, Wieczysta Kraków, and Future Derbies
Daniel Sobis: Ángel Rodado has once again been a key player for Wisła. Do you think he will stay at the club?
Marc Carbó: Ángel is a decisive player, that is obvious. For any team, having a striker of his quality is extremely important. I hope he can stay because it would be very positive for the club.
Daniel Sobis: Were you surprised to see Wieczysta Kraków earn promotion as well?
Marc Carbó: Not completely, because it is a club that has been growing a lot and doing things the right way. When there is investment and a clear project, results usually follow.
Daniel Sobis: If everything goes according to plan, Wisła could face both Cracovia and Wieczysta in Kraków derbies. Does that excite you?
Marc Carbó: Of course it does. Derbies are always special matches, especially in a city like Kraków. It would be something very beautiful for both the players and the supporters.
Looking Ahead: Wisła’s Ambitions and Carbó’s Future
Daniel Sobis: Jarosław Królewski is often described as a passionate and energetic owner. Is he really a “positive madman,” as some fans jokingly call him?
Marc Carbó: He is someone who is deeply involved with the club, full of energy and passion. You can tell that he genuinely lives and breathes Wisła Kraków, and that attitude is reflected in everyday life around the club.
Daniel Sobis: What should Wisła's ambitions be in the Ekstraklasa next season?
Marc Carbó: The first objective has to be establishing ourselves in the division. However, because of this club’s history and ambition, I think Wisła should always look a little further ahead than simply surviving.
Daniel Sobis: Finally, the question every Wisła supporter wants answered: will Marc Carbó still be at the club next season?
Marc Carbó: Honestly, after everything I have experienced over these years, it is impossible not to feel something very strong for the club and its supporters. I have spent three seasons fighting for this objective, experiencing all kinds of moments, and achieving promotion is something very special.
I sincerely believe it is also recognition of the work, commitment, and everything I have given during this time. I am proud to have been part of this journey.
Now is the time to assess everything calmly and make the best decision for the future, always thinking about what is best both professionally and personally.
