GKS Statement Win, Hasic Lifts Cracovia

All four teams participating in the European qualifiers had a weekend off so the biggest stories of Round 5 of the Polish Ekstraklasa came from Katowice and Kraków. GKS blanked Wisła Płock in a 5:0 win, Ajdin Hasic scored twice late to help Cracovia comeback in a wild Kraków Derby against Wieczysta

Late Deflection Denies Legia

Nearly 100,000 fans packed stadiums during Round 5 of the Polish Ekstraklasa. There were 24 goals across 7 games, there was late drama, two own goals and a red card. Legia Warsaw remain unbeaten and atop the table after a dramatic 1:1 draw in Gliwice. The Army Men opened the scoring in the 7th minute after Łukasz Zjawiński headed home his 3rd of the season. The narrow lead disappeared in the 90th minute when Leandro Sanca’s shot was deflected into the net by Rafał Augustyniak. The 21-year old American defender Robert Deziel Jr once again played a full match and was cautioned with a yellow card - his first of the season.

Samiec-Talar Sparks Śląsk Rally

A similar storyline took place in Wrocław, where Śląsk - despite playing a man up - found themselves trailing 1:3 to Widzew Łódź after 63 minutes. The hosts clawed their way back thanks to Piotr Samiec-Talar’s efforts. The 24-year old assisted on late goals by Piotr Banaszak and Eniss Shabani, which allowed Śląsk to remain unbeaten at home.

Cracovia’s Comeback King

However, a heroic performance by Samiec-Talar did not earn him a Player of the Week recognition. This accolade went to Cracovia’s winger Ajdin Hasic. The Bosnian international, who leads the league with attempts (21) scored a dramatic brace against Wieczysta while the second strike came in the very last play. It was the second career double for Hasic in Cracovia uniform and second consecutive come-from-behind win for the Stripes, who now sit in the 3rd spot in the standings.

Katowice’s Five-Star Performance

The only other home win of the round happened in Katowice, where GKS demolished Wisła Płock 5:0. Bartosz Nowak continues to amaze after 3 goals for the home side came from his assists. This was the best offensive output for Katowice since 6:0 drubbing of Puszcza Niepołomice in October of 2024.

Chaos in Szczecin, Silence in Radom

Elsewhere in Radom Radomiak and Zagłębie played to a scoreless draw, in Kielce Karol Czubak scored his 3rd of the season for Motor and in Szczecin Musa Juwara scored both a proper goal and into his own net in a wild 2:2 game between Pogoń and Wisła Kraków.

Round 6: The Big Four Are Back

The next round shapes up to bring us even more drama and top quality action as it features the return of the Polish export quartet, which play their final European qualifiers mid week . Raków will look for their first points of the season against Jagiellonia, Lech travel to Łódź to take on Widzew and Górnik host GKS in Silesian Derby. Also in Kraków two opponents from the same town square off against each other with Wisła trying to keep Wieczysta at bay. Both teams allowed 10 goals each this season so expect fireworks at Reymonta Street.
